Dallas’ Ten Best Hidden Gems (Mar 01, 2010 - Apr 11, 2010)
Our first mission is to highlight the 10 best hidden spots in Dallas! We'll work with some of the best artists in the city to create a mural and end the project with a huge party. (P-A-R-T--Y? Because we gotta!)
Here are our final 10 picks (in no particular order, of course!):
- Dragon Street
- Lakewood Theater
- Double Wide
- Granada Theater
- Twisted Root
- Dallas Arts District
- Lee Harvey's
- The Women's Museum
- Palladium Ballroom/Gilley's
- Pearl Cup
Here's a handy map so you can go visit all 10 of the awesome places that made the final list!

I’m social. I’m a homebrewer, and a diehard pats and sox fan that lives in Texas (go figure, right?). My partner just so happens to be a diehard Yankees and Giants fan. How we survive baseball season is anyone’s guess! I tweet. A lot. Some people think it’s my job - and to a certain extent, it is. I also have an odd affinity for 1980s pop culture.

Thank you for highlighting my fav’s: the Women’s Museum in Fair Park and the shiny new Dallas Arts District! How about including the Dallas Arboretum (check out Dallas Blooms! and the summer concert series) and the Dallas Black Dance Theatre - they renovated the historic Moorland Y building and perform at the Wyly Theatre when they are not on national tours.

@n - that’s awesome! a hidden gem list is a pretty subjective undertaking, but we think a lot of these places deserve a little more attention from everyone in Dallas! We’re glad to hear that you’ve been to a lot of them though!

These aren’t really “hidden gems” in my opinion, considering I’ve already been to at least 7 on that list.

Love your “10 Best” graphic - did you have a professional create this?

I think a great space and not known by all is the 500X gallery. Another… Melrose Hotel.

Hello Colin and Alyssa,
Alyssa, I know your father as I too work at iDirect. I’ve been in the Dallas area for the last 25+ years and I love it here. My family and I are from the New York area as well. Texas is now home and there’s no going back to the winter snow and summer humidity of the north east. Below is a list of the places I’ve taken friends and family when they come to visit Dallas. These suggested spots are not necessarily hidden but you can deal with that.
1 - Fair Park- Planetarium, Aquarium, Museums and the Cotton Bowl (Dallas)
2 - Billy Bobs Honky Tonk (FT Worth)
3 - Dealey Plaza (Dallas)
4 - White Rock Lake Park (Dallas)
5 - Omni Theater (Ft Worth)
6 - Texas Motor Speedway (Haskell)
7 - Six Flags over Texas (Arlington)
8 - Ft Worth Water Gardens (Ft Worth)
9 - Dinosaur Valley Park ( Glen Rose)
10 - South Fork Ranch (Parker)
Have fun and good luck winning the Fiesta….
